good news from the East
Good news comes from the East! No, not the three magi and the star. It’s Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew announcing to reporters yesterday that when Pope Benedict visits Turkey this year, they will meet.
And not only that, but the dialogue between the Catholic and Orthodox churches which broke off five years ago will resume. He said:
''We are in very good relationships with the present pope, Benedict XVI, and I'm in the very happy position to announce to you that we are going to restart the dialogue on the international global level between the Orthodox church and the Roman Catholic church.”
I am as enthusiastic about greater dialogue with the Orthodox sister churches as I am with any union that may come about with traditional Anglicans, though I realize that such a union should really be entered into gingerly. Don't want to offend them Anglicans over there.
