a sneeze from the gods
Spring is in full swing….and for many folks like me that means sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, the whole bit. I am usually in this state for about a month….Then miraculously I am ok for the rest of the season.
Well, speaking of miracles, a fascinating connection between sneezing and good omen was discussed at NPR this morning with Elaine Fantham, professor of classics at Princeton.
Apparently, the ancients believed that sneezing was a sign of favor from the gods. How did they know that? Well, sneezing is something that comes upon you, not manufactured by humans, is spontaneous, and unexpected…..hence they believed it must be from the gods.
