original sin? eh?

i attended a meeting recently for young parents who would like to have their newborn babes baptized into the catholic church. there were about 4 new and excited young parents in the group and they were just all eager and were looking forward to it.

but when the person leading the group got into the topic of "original sin," i thought his presentation just sounded awkward; and, well, it went over the excited parents' heads. at one point it sounded as if he was denying that such a thing exists. does it? hmm?

"pity, " i thought. "there must be a more contemporary, accessible, and better way of articulating this belief without it sounding goofy and, well, downright outdated. " any ideas?
