where have the comments gone?

I was looking back at the archives and reviewing the comments (yes, I do read all the comments here even though I do not always respond to all of them) and then noticed that comments made to this humble blog prior to July 2005 have disappeared. Yes...just like that...*poof*....gone....inexplicably gone. Well, maybe there is an explanation to it, but I just don't know what. If anyone knows what could have happened, do please let me know. I am waiting for Haloscan to respond. In the meantime, if this persists I might just return to Blogger's comment service or just forgo having comments altogether: though I would hate to do that.
