surpassing The Babe

OK...baseball history has been made in San Francisco today...and now that Barry Bonds has surpassed the legendary Babe Ruth’s record of 714 home runs, the local sports media (perhaps the world media as well) can now move on....move on, I say!

I can just imagine the relief Bonds must be feeling now that this “pressure” has been lifted.

Bonds now trails Hank Aaron’s record of 755 home runs.

And the lucky guy who caught the ball? Well, he wasn’t even watching the game. He had left his seat and went down to the concession stands to get peanuts and beer for his new wife when Bonds hit the homer.

Andrew Morbitzer heard the roar of the crowd, saw the ball coming, watched people reaching out for it, and snagged it.

“It came down, I snagged it out of the air and SFPD snagged me," said Morbitzer, referring to the San Francisco police who took him away from the crowd for his own safety.

Well, Morbitzer never got the peanuts and the beer for his bride who for some time didn’t know about his lucky catch.

"He was in line for peanuts," she said. "I was kind of wondering what was taking so long."
